Newport, Wales, is a vibrant city with a rich history and diverse attractions. Nestled on the banks of the River Usk, it offers a variety of experiences for visitors, from historic sites and cultural venues to scenic landscapes and modern amenities.

With the growth of the International Convention Centre at the Coldra there is a growing commercial and exhibition trade in the city. Finding the right place to stay is essential to get the most out of your visit to the ICC and Newport.

The city boasts a range of hotels, each catering to different tastes and budgets. This short post will explore the diverse hotel landscape in Newport, detailing options from luxury establishments to budget-friendly stays.

If you are coming to Newport for a conference, exhibition or leisure activities at the ICC, check out my recommendations below. As an airport transfer business, I can offer clean and comfortable airport taxis to Bristol Airport and Cardiff Airport if you are flying to the conference centre.

Hotels Closest to the International Convention Centre

These hotels are located closest to the International Convention Centre and are within walking distance. Take care when walking as there are some very busy and fast roads that need to be cross

Celtic Manor Resort

Within just a few minutes’ walking distance, the Celtic Manor Resort is a 5-star hotel with everything you could need. The ICC is part-owned by the Celtic Manor and is located within its grounds.

For those who place convenience over price, this is the place to stay.

Ty Newport

The Ty Newport is the city’s newest hotel. It’s a 4-star offering from the Celtic Collection and a few minutes walk from the ICC.

Coldra Court Hotel

Another 4-star offering from the Celtic Collection. This is a smaller more intimate offering than the Ty Newport. It has a highly recommended steakhouse restaurant.

Holiday Inn Newport

A 3-star hotel a few minutes walk from the ICC. An established brand name offering. Be careful when booking taxis to and from the Holiday Inn on apps. There are 2 Holiday Inns in Newport, the other is a Holiday Inn Express on the other side of Newport. People regularly book to and from the wrong hotel as the Express often comes up first on taxi booking apps.

Premier Inn Coldra

A 3-star commercial hotel a few minutes walk from the ICC. A popular budget-price offering close to the convention centre.

Hotels in Newport City Centre

These hotels are in the centre of Newport and convenient for those travelling into the city by train. Public transport is quite limited out to the convention centre – check with the times on the local bus company Newport Bus. Private hire is well provided for with Veezu, Uber and Bolt apps operating in the city. During rush hour traffic allows approx 20 minutes for travel from central Newport to the International Convention Centre.

Mercure Hotel

The Mercure Hotel is the latest addition to hotels in the City of Newport. It is a 4-star hotel and close to much of the life of the city. It’s about 5 or 6 minutes walk from the Newport Railway Station.

Travelodge Newport

A budget hotel in the heart of Newport. Just a couple of minutes walk from the railway station. Ideally located for the pubs and restaurants of Newport.

Ibis Budget

The Ibis Budget hotel is about a 10-minute cab ride away from the station and conveniently located from the motorway to the ICC. Allow about 15 minutes to arrive at the convention centre by taxi from the Ibis Budget. Offers basic bed and breakfast but there is also a bar available. Slightly out of the hustle and bustle of the city centre.

Holiday Inn Express

A mid-priced 3-star commercial hotel under the Holiday Inn brand. Please note as previously stated there are 2 Holiday Inns in Newport so when making a taxi booking ensure you have the correct one.

This hotel is on the edge of Newport towards Cardiff. A modern build it offers good value About 10 minutes from the railway station by taxi it is close to the M4 and just 20 minutes taxi ride from the convention centre. The hotel is a little out of the way. It does have its own restaurant and just next door is a highly recommended pub restaurant.

Spa Hotels close to the ICC

The Celtic Manor resort hotel has several spa facilities but there are 2 spa hotels within easy reach of the convention centre. These are perfect for those looking to relax after a hard day at a conference or exhibition.

Parkway Hotel and Spa

A spa hotel in Cwmbran set within acres of grounds. Despite being on the edge of the commercial area of Cwmbran, the Parkway Hotel has a rural feel thanks to its extensive grounds. This spa hotel is 4-star rated. Allow for a 20-minute taxi ride from the hotel to the convention centre. Being in a commercial area taxis can be easy to get.

Cwrt Bleddyn Hotel and Spa

A spa hotel set in the heart of the Usk valley in Monmouthshire. The hotel is set within acres of landscaped grounds and offers a 4-star experience. A well-respected restaurant is available. Set in a remote rural setting a few miles outside Caerleon. Allow for a 25-minute taxi drive to the convention centre. Being a rural location it can be difficult to get a taxi from the hotel at short notice.

Independent hotels near the International Convention Centre Wales

There are a large number of independent hotels and guesthouses in and around the International Convention Centre. To reference them all would make this post way too long. Here are some of my recommendations about local independent hotels and inns etc.

The Priory Hotel, Caerleon

A bespoke boutique-style hotel and restaurant set within a 12th-century monastery. A fine country hotel set within the Roman town of Caerleon, the hotel is about 15 15-minute taxi ride from the International Convention Centre.

The Old Barn Inn, Llanmartin

A traditional country inn dating back to the mid 1700’s. This inn has been extended to offer a number of high-quality rooms for accommodation. A well-respected restaurant is popular with locals. About a 20-minute drive from the conference centre. Because of its rural location, it can be difficult to get a taxi on demand in this area.

The New Inn Motel, Langstone

A mid-price motel based in a semi-rural location. The motel is about 20 minutes drive from the convention centre. It is an extended pub that now offers rooms and also has a good quality restaurant/steakhouse. Situated in a semi-rural location between Newport and Caldicot it can be difficult to get taxis on demand from this location.

Days Inn Magor

Not strictly an independent hotel, this motel is ideally located at Magor Services. It is a good quality budget commercial hotel that is just 15 15-minute drive to the International Convention Centre. However, it is important to note that travel time can extend greatly at peak times, particularly on Friday afternoons when it can take 1 hour or more to travel from Magor to the International Convention Centre. It can be difficult to get a taxi from this location, especially at peak times.

The Rising Sun, Rogerstone

A traditional inn just outside central Newport. The handy location is close to the M4. Expect a 20-minute drive from the pub to the convention centre. It can take longer, particularly during morning rush hour.

I hope you enjoy my collection of hotel recommendations if you are going to the International Convention Centre in Newport, Wales.

If you are flying to the centre I can offer airport taxis from both the local airports of Bristol Airport and Cardiff Airport.
